A 5 star Umrah package from Pakistan includes the Nusuk visa, return flights, hotels in the closest band around Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi, and ground transport. Meals start at breakfast, and private transport is optional. The premium mainly buys proximity and space: a walk of only a few minutes and larger rooms. It is ideal for elderly or less mobile pilgrims and for Ramadan, but the Umrah itself is the same in every category.
5 Star distances, meal plans and extras described here are typical market patterns, not promises for your booking. Your 5 Star quote names the exact hotels, room type, meals and extras. Anything missing from the quote isn’t included.
A 5 star Umrah package is often sold with pictures of chandeliers and marble lobbies. Those aren't the real reason to book one. The real reason is that the best 5 star hotels in Makkah stand right beside the Haram. You can walk from your room into the mosque in a few minutes, return for a rest between prayers, and go back again without feeling drained.
For some pilgrims, that changes everything. An 80-year-old grandfather who can manage only short walks can pray all five prayers in the Haram. A family with a newborn can go back for feeds. During the last ten nights of Ramadan, you can pray Taraweeh and Qiyam, rest, and return for Suhoor and Fajr. For others, especially fit, younger pilgrims, the same money might be better spent on a longer trip in a good 4 star hotel.
This guide explains what 5 star really offers, where the premium is worth paying and where it isn't, and how to choose the right hotel and room. It reflects the questions families ask us when they are spending on a special Umrah, often a gift for their parents.
Confirm in writing: the room type and view, the meal plan in each city, whether transport is shared or private, Ziyarat, early check-in and late check-out, and the name of your Saudi contact.
Makkah's 5 star hotels fall into roughly two groups:
So even within 5 star, the hotel name matters. "5 star Makkah" can describe both a tower whose entrance faces the Haram gates and a hotel a noticeable walk away.
Many 5 star hotels sell rooms by what you can see from the window:
| Room type | What you see | Relative cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kaaba view | The Kaaba and Mataf from your window | Highest; sells out first | Elders who can't stay long in the Haram; special occasions |
| Haram view | Part of the mosque, courtyard or minarets | High | Families wanting a view without the top premium |
| City view | The city or mountains | Standard 5 star rate | Those who want proximity, not the view |
Is a Kaaba view worth it? For an elderly parent who tires after one Tawaf, being able to sit by the window and look at the Kaaba between prayers can be deeply moving. For a fit pilgrim who will spend most of the day inside the mosque, a city-view room in the same tower gives the same short walk for much less.
"Haram view" can mean a clear view of the courtyard or a partial glimpse between buildings. Ask for the room category's exact name as the hotel lists it, and look at recent guest photos of that category.
Madinah's 5 star hotels are clustered around the plazas of Masjid an-Nabawi, many just a short walk from the gates. Here the gap between 5 star and good 4 star is smaller than in Makkah, because many hotels in both categories are close. That is why so many families spend on 5 star in Makkah and choose 4 or 3 star in Madinah.
If you do stay 5 star in Madinah, ask which gates the hotel is nearest to. The women's entrances and the Rawdah access points are in specific areas, and choosing a hotel on the right side saves walking around the huge complex.
Breakfast is usually included, often a large buffet. Half board or full board costs extra. In Ramadan, many hotels offer Iftar and Suhoor. Ask whether these are included, and whether the Iftar is timed so you can pray Maghrib in the Haram.
| Feature | Economy | 3 Star | 4 Star | 5 Star |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Makkah location | Further out | Walkable | Closer | Nearest band, incl. courtyard towers |
| Room size | Small, shared | Compact | Comfortable | Largest; view options |
| Meals | Room only / breakfast | Varies | Breakfast; half board on some | Breakfast; half/full board extra |
| Walking effort | Highest | Moderate | Low | Lowest |
| Relative cost | Lowest | Mid | Upper-mid | Highest |
| Pros | Cheapest | Value | Comfort for elders | Maximum Haram time; views |
| Cons | Distance | Quality varies | Peak prices climb | Premium price; lift queues in towers |
| Best for | Fit, budget-first | First-timers | Families with parents | Elderly, Ramadan, special trips |

Many of our 5 star bookings are made by sons and daughters, often working in the Gulf, the UK or elsewhere, who are sending their parents from Pakistan. Planning from a distance brings a few extra considerations:
A 5 star Umrah for parents is one of the most meaningful gifts a child can give. A little extra planning makes sure it is as comfortable for them as it was intended to be.
Some families want more than 5 star hotels. They want a trip built entirely around their own group. A private Umrah usually means:
Private Umrah is especially useful for families with a disabled member, very elderly travellers, or anyone who finds group schedules hard. It costs more than a group 5 star package, but the difference is often smaller than people expect, especially for a family of five or six sharing a vehicle. Ask for a group price and a private price side by side, then decide which features are worth it to you.
There is no official "VIP Umrah" category. The rituals, the visa and the rules at the Haram are the same for everyone. What you can buy is closer hotels, private transport, flexible timing and a personal guide. Make sure each of these is itemised in writing, rather than accepting a "VIP" label.
Ramadan, and especially its last ten nights, is when 5 star is most valuable and most expensive. The nights are long: Taraweeh, rest, Qiyam, Suhoor, Fajr. The crowds around the Haram are among the largest of the year, and gates close when the mosque fills. Being a few minutes' walk from the mosque makes it possible to rest between these without losing your place in the rhythm of the nights.
Arrival and departure days are where a premium trip can still feel rushed, because flights rarely match hotel check-in and check-out times.
Large 5 star complexes have several towers and entrances. Ask which exit leads most directly to the gate you'll use, especially for elderly travellers.
Leave your room 20 to 30 minutes before the Adhan, or choose a lower floor. In the busiest towers, the lift queue can take longer than the walk.
This one decision usually saves the most money with the least loss of comfort.
It gives you the same short walk as a Kaaba-view room for much less. Many families put the difference towards extra nights.
The Haramain train can make the Makkah–Madinah transfer easier than a long coach journey, especially with a private car to and from each station.
A beautiful room makes it tempting to spend more time in it. Many pilgrims say the best advice they received was to treat the hotel as a place to rest, and the Haram as the place to be.
Some aren't. Check the name and the route.
If you'll be in the mosque most of the day, a Kaaba-view premium may not be the best use of money.
The closest towers are also the busiest. Plan your timing, or the short walk won't feel short.
"Haram view" and "Kaaba view" are different categories at very different prices. Your voucher should name the exact one.
For the last ten nights, the best rooms are usually gone long before the month begins.
Many 4 star hotels in Madinah are close to Masjid an-Nabawi. Compare before you pay 5 star rates there.
A 5 star Umrah package is worth its premium when it buys something your group truly needs: the shortest walk for a parent who can't manage more, the ability to rest and return during Ramadan nights, or a once-in-a-lifetime view of the Kaaba for someone who has waited years for this journey. When it only buys a bigger lobby, it isn't.
A practical takeaway: ask for two 5 star options, one in a courtyard tower and one a few streets back, with the same room type, and compare the price difference with the walking difference. That comparison tells you exactly what the premium buys for your family. For the wider planning picture, read our complete Umrah guide.
