Rates move with seats and season. Why Umrah prices rise and fall
Price Two OptionsRawalpindi has no Umrah flights of its own, so families drive to Islamabad International Airport (ISB) in Islamabad. Direct services below follow our 25 September 2026 timetable check.
Transit routes, when to put on Ihram and luggage limits for Rawalpindi travellers are in our airport and flight notes.
Hotel distance, add-ons, price drivers, paperwork and airport day each have a short explainer — open what your Rawalpindi trip needs:
Rawalpindi pilgrims fly from Islamabad International Airport, which had non-stop Jeddah flights on PIA, Airblue, Fly Jinnah, AirSial and Saudia, and non-stop Madinah flights on PIA and Airblue, when we checked. The drive depends heavily on your area and the time of day. Choose your package by the Makkah hotel's walking distance, book early for Ramadan and the holidays, and plan around rush hour and monsoon rain.
Rawalpindi shares an international airport with the capital, and that makes it one of the easiest cities in Pakistan to start an Umrah from. Islamabad International Airport has several airlines flying non-stop to Jeddah and two to Madinah, so Rawalpindi families have a real choice of dates, airlines and even which holy city to begin in.
What Rawalpindi families do have to plan is the journey across the twin cities to the airport. Rawalpindi's old city, its congested bazaars and its sprawling new housing schemes mean the same airport can be a short drive for one family and a long, stressful one for another, depending on the time of day. Monsoon rain adds its own challenge in summer.
Rawalpindi is also the natural base for pilgrims from across its division: Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Taxila, Wah Cantt, Gujar Khan and Murree. This guide covers the airport, the local journey, the weather, packages and quotes, and planning for families and groups. For the Umrah rites, visa rules and hotel categories in general, see our complete Umrah guide. For more on the airport and capital-side planning, see Umrah from Islamabad.
When we checked airline schedules on 25 September 2026, Islamabad (ISB) had:
| Route | Airlines found | Approximate flight time |
|---|---|---|
| Islamabad–Jeddah non-stop | PIA, Airblue, Fly Jinnah, AirSial, Saudia | About 5–6 hours |
| Islamabad–Madinah non-stop | PIA, Airblue | About 5–6 hours |
Schedules change by season, and frequencies usually rise around Ramadan. Always ask for the flight numbers and times for your exact dates, and the baggage allowance each way. Airlines differ, and the return journey with Zamzam and gifts is where baggage matters.
Some fares sold as "Islamabad to Jeddah" stop in the Gulf on the way. In some brochures "direct" means one airline or one booking, not no stops. A short connection is manageable. A long overnight layover with elders or young children is not. Before paying, ask for the airline, flight numbers, times and any stops for both directions. You can check each flight number on the airline's own website.
| Start in | Advantages | Things to consider | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Makkah (fly to Jeddah) | Umrah done early; more flight days | Ihram from Rawalpindi; Umrah may follow a night flight | Most first-timers |
| Madinah (fly to Madinah) | Calm start; no Ihram on the plane | Fewer flight days; Umrah mid-trip | Families with elders |
If you fly to Jeddah, men usually put on Ihram at home or at the airport, and make the intention before crossing the Miqat in the air. The crew normally announces it. If you start in Madinah, you put on Ihram at the Madinah Miqat (Dhul Hulayfah) when travelling to Makkah.
Islamabad International Airport lies to the west of the twin cities. Your journey time depends on where you start and when:
| Area | Typical journey | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Saddar, Cantt, Chaklala, Westridge | Moderate | Peak-hour traffic on main roads |
| Satellite Town, Commercial Market, Murree Road | Moderate to long | Murree Road congestion |
| Raja Bazaar and the old city | Longer | Narrow streets for loading luggage; bazaar traffic |
| Bahria Town, DHA Rawalpindi, Gulraiz | Moderate to long | Distance and expressway traffic |
| Adiala Road and southern suburbs | Longer | Single routes that clog at peak times |
These are patterns, not exact timings. Check a live map on the day and aim to be at the airport at least three hours before departure. Night and early-morning flights usually have lighter traffic, but leave early anyway. One accident or event can block a route.
If you live in the old city, consider loading luggage into the car somewhere with easier access, or asking a relative in a newer area to host the family on departure night. If you want a vehicle from home to the airport, ask for it to be priced in your quote. It is only included if listed.
Rawalpindi's heavy monsoon rains, usually in July and August, can flood low-lying areas around Nullah Leh and slow traffic across the city. On a rainy departure day, check routes before leaving, avoid known flood spots and leave much earlier than usual. Keep documents in a waterproof bag.
Winters bring rain and cold nights, and occasional fog can affect early flights. Makkah will be much warmer than Rawalpindi in winter, so wear a warm layer to the airport but pack mostly light clothes, plus a jacket for cool Madinah nights.
Rawalpindi summers are hot, but Makkah's summer heat is harsher, reflected off stone and marble. If you travel in summer, choose a closer hotel and do most walking early in the morning and late at night.
Rawalpindi is the gathering point for pilgrims from across the Potohar region. If relatives are coming from Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujar Khan, Taxila, Wah Cantt or Murree:
See the city pages for Chakwal, Jhelum, Attock and Taxila.
| Category | Makkah hotel | Rooms | Usually suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | Further out; shuttle common | Quad or shared | Fit, budget-first, repeat pilgrims |
| 3 Star | Walkable, not the closest | Double to quad | First-timers, couples, small families |
| 4 Star | Closer, shorter walk | Double to quad | Families with elderly parents |
| 5 Star | Nearest band | Double to quad | Very elderly, Ramadan, special trips |
Many Rawalpindi families travelling with parents choose a mixed package: a closer hotel in Makkah, where distance matters most, and a 3 star hotel in Madinah, where many hotels are close to Masjid an-Nabawi anyway.
Rawalpindi has many Umrah sellers, from established operators to small agents around the bazaars. Two quotes that look similar can describe very different trips. Make every quote answer the same questions:
Check the hotel's exact name and walk, whether the flight is non-stop, whether meals are included, and whether the room is quad. The price gap nearly always shows up in one of these four answers.
We don't publish a fixed Rawalpindi price because it would date quickly. Share your dates and group for a written, itemised quote.
The twin cities have passport offices and designated vaccination centres, so most problems can be fixed quickly. The ones we see most are name spellings that differ between CNIC and passport, married women's surnames, expired children's passports and vaccinations taken too late. Start early, because appointments fill up in peak season.
| Travel period | Demand | Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Ramadan | Very high | Book as early as possible; the last ten nights go first |
| Rajab and Sha'ban | High | Popular pre-Ramadan window |
| December–January | High | Family season; book when school dates are announced |
| Summer | Moderate | Very hot in Makkah; monsoon at home |
| Muharram and Safar | Lower | Best value |
The Umrah visa must be used within 30 days of issue, so a good operator books hotels and flights early and applies for the visa close to travel.
For elders, three decisions matter most: a closer Makkah hotel, a Madinah-first flight if possible, and rest days between travel, Umrah and Ziyarat. Request wheelchair assistance when the ticket is issued, for Islamabad and the Saudi airport, both ways. Keep medicines in hand baggage with prescriptions.
Every child needs a passport, and a B-Form or FRC shows the relationship. A family quad room is usually the best value. Keep children close in the Haram, with your phone number on a card in their pocket, and agree a meeting point.
Saudi rules have relaxed for adult women in organised groups, but operator policies and document checks vary. Tell the operator about every woman travelling before booking, and ask for rooms with family members.
Choose one coordinator, one flight and one meeting point. Members with different budgets can stay in different hotels and still perform Umrah and Ziyarat together.
If you land in Madinah, the first day is gentler: check in, rest and join the prayers when ready.
This is a planning overview for Rawalpindi pilgrims, not a substitute for learning the fiqh from a scholar you trust. Knowing the order explains why hotel distance and rest days matter so much.
Allow three to five hours for the whole sequence, and longer in crowds. That is why a long journey, a late check-in and a distant hotel together make the first night so demanding — and why resting first is sometimes the wiser choice.
Most packages offer a short programme of visits to places connected with the life of the Prophet ﷺ and early Islamic history. Check whether Ziyarat is included in your quote and which sites are covered.
Spread Ziyarat over separate mornings rather than one long, hot day, especially with elders, and don’t schedule it on the same day as a long journey.
If you live in the old city, start the airport run from a relative's house with easier road access.
A Madinah-first trip is a real comfort upgrade for elders, and it's available from your own airport.
With five airlines to Jeddah, comparing two options for your dates can save money or improve baggage.
On monsoon days, leave early and avoid low-lying routes.
Close Makkah hotels sell out before flights do.
The airport isn't far on a map, but rush hour can double the journey.
Ask for flight numbers and stops.
The cheapest quote often has the furthest hotel.
Relatives from Chakwal or Jhelum should arrive the day before.
Check the operator and pay only a business account.
Rawalpindi families share one of Pakistan's best-connected Umrah airports. Getting the most from it means planning the cross-city journey, comparing quotes on details, and choosing the Makkah hotel by distance.
A practical takeaway: when you ask for a quote, give your Rawalpindi area and flight preference, and ask for the hotel names, flight numbers and baggage in writing. That's enough to compare any two offers fairly.
Travellers from these places share Rawalpindi’s usual airport, Islamabad International Airport (ISB).
Message your travel month and the people going from Rawalpindi; the reply lists hotels, flights and a per-head PKR total in writing.
