Everything to check before you book — pricing, hotel distance, visa rules, flights, timing and choosing an agency — in one place.
To plan Umrah from Pakistan in 2026, book through an operator verified by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which applies for your visa on Nusuk. Choose hotels by walking distance to the Haram, not by star rating, and ask for the exact hotel names, flight numbers and an itemised price in writing before paying. Book early for Ramadan and school holidays. The visa must be used within 30 days of issue.
This guide is for Pakistani families and individuals who want to perform Umrah and don't want to learn the hard way. Maybe it is your first Umrah. Maybe you are taking your parents, or organising a trip for twelve relatives from three cities. Either way, the questions are the same: how much will it really cost, which hotel should we choose, what does the visa need, and how do we know the agency is genuine?
We plan Umrah trips for pilgrims across Pakistan. Most of the problems we hear about did not come from dishonest agencies. They came from questions nobody asked before paying. For example: "How far is the hotel on foot?" "Is this flight non-stop?" "Is breakfast included?" "What happens if the visa is late?" This guide covers each of these questions in the order you will face them. It also explains why each point matters, so you can judge any quote yourself, including ours.
Things change. Visa rules, airline routes and prices move every season. We note where a fact was last checked. Wherever a detail matters, the safest habit is to get it confirmed in writing for your own dates.
Every Umrah package, from any agency, is built from five cost blocks:
Everything else is an add-on: meals, Ziyarat tours, a Pakistani group leader, Ihram kits, SIM cards and extra insurance. Agencies differ most on these add-ons. It is also where cheap-looking quotes hide their gaps.
Two quotes can both say "15 days, 3 star, with flights" and still differ by a large amount. The reasons are almost always:
Saudi hotels price their rooms in riyal, and airfares follow fuel prices and exchange rates. When the rupee weakens, a package priced in PKR can go up within weeks, even though nothing about the trip has changed. That is why every honest quote says how long it is valid. If a quote has no validity date, ask for one.
Our current group departures range from PKR 209,899 per person (sharing room) to PKR 423,299 per person (double room), including return flights, as listed on 2 Oct 2026. Ramadan, school holidays and closer hotels cost more; the exact price for your dates is confirmed in writing. You can see every current departure, with hotels and room prices, in our live group packages.
If one quote is clearly cheaper than three others for the same stars and nights, don't assume that agency is simply more efficient. Ask four questions: What is the hotel's exact name? Is the flight non-stop? Are meals included? Is the room quad or double? The difference nearly always shows up in one of these answers.
Hotel star ratings in Makkah and Madinah don't mean the same thing as in Lahore or Karachi. A "4 star" near the Haram may have small rooms and slow lifts, while a well-run "3 star" may feel better. What decides your daily comfort is walking distance, room sharing and the meal plan. The number of stars comes after these.
| Feature | Economy | 3 Star | 4 Star | 5 Star |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typical Makkah location | Further out; shuttle common | Walkable, not the closest band | Closer, often a short walk | Nearest band, incl. towers by the courtyard |
| Room sharing | Quad or shared | Double to quad | Double to quad | Double to quad |
| Meals | Room only or breakfast | Varies — get it in writing | Breakfast; half board on some | Breakfast; full board extra |
| Physical effort | Highest | Moderate | Lower | Lowest |
| Relative cost | Lowest | Mid | Upper-mid | Highest |
| Main advantage | Most affordable | Balance of cost and access | Less walking for elders | Maximum time in the Haram |
| Main drawback | Walking or shuttle timing | Quality varies by hotel | Price rises fast in peak | Premium prices in peak season |
| Best for | Fit, budget-first, repeat pilgrims | First-timers, couples, small families | Families with elderly parents | Elderly, less mobile, premium travellers |
Most comparisons miss this: going from Economy to 3 Star mostly buys you distance and meals. Going from 4 Star to 5 Star mostly buys you room size and a Haram view. Tawaf and Sa'i are the same whichever hotel you walked from. See what each category usually includes on our Economy, 3 Star, 4 Star and 5 Star pages.
If anyone in your group is elderly, has knee or heart problems, or uses a wheelchair, spend on distance in Makkah first. Walking 1.5 km each way in the heat, several times a day, wears people out by the third day. A 4-star hotel 300 metres away is better for them than a 5-star hotel with a nice lobby and a 20-minute walk.
You don't need the same category in both cities. Makkah is more demanding: bigger crowds, more heat, and Tawaf and Sa'i on foot. Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah is easier to reach from many mid-range hotels. Many families choose a closer, higher-category hotel in Makkah and a good 3-star in Madinah. Their experience hardly changes, and they save noticeably. Any competent operator will price this without hesitation.
"5 minutes from the Haram" is the phrase behind most Umrah complaints. It can mean a real five-minute walk. It can mean five minutes at a brisk pace at 3 a.m. It can also mean fifteen minutes in Ramadan crowds, measured to a car park gate rather than the Mataf.
Here is how to check any hotel yourself in under five minutes:
An operator who knows where they are putting you will name the hotel straight away. "We'll confirm closer to departure" is a warning sign. Ask for the name before you pay, or at least for a written list of possible hotels with a maximum distance.
Many pilgrims plan both cities with the same checklist. That is a mistake, because the cities place very different demands on you.
Makkah is where you perform the Umrah itself, and where you will be on your feet the most. In Makkah, heat, crowds and repeated walks make distance the deciding factor. The Haram complex is large and spread out, and gates close or change routes when the building fills up. Rupees spent on getting closer in Makkah make the most noticeable daily difference.
Madinah is calmer. The mosque is easier to reach, the pace is gentler and, outside peak Ramadan nights, the crowds are easier to manage. Here, a good room and an unhurried schedule matter more than squeezing into the closest block. Leave time for Masjid Quba, Mount Uhud and the Rawdah visit, which needs a Nusuk time slot. Pilgrims who rush Madinah nearly always say afterwards that they wish they had slowed down.
| Trip length | Common split | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| 7 nights | 4 Makkah / 3 Madinah | Enough for the Umrah plus a short Madinah stay; suits fit travellers with limited leave |
| 10 nights | 5–6 Makkah / 4–5 Madinah | Steadier pace with a rest day in each city |
| 14–15 nights | 7–8 Makkah / 6–7 Madinah | The most popular family choice; room for rest and Ziyarat |
| 21 nights | 11–12 Makkah / 9–10 Madinah | Long periods of worship; popular in Ramadan and with retirees |
Pakistani passport holders apply for the Umrah visa through a Pakistani operator attested by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA). The operator submits the application on Nusuk, the official Saudi Umrah platform, along with your confirmed hotel and transport bookings. Every visa is linked to a digital record, which has made fake-visa scams much harder than they once were.
Two 2026 points to know:
Some operators offer "land packages" (visa, hotels and transport) for pilgrims who already have flights, and some offer only the visa with hotels. Visa-only can look cheaper, but you then handle all the coordination yourself, including transport, hotel problems and emergencies. It suits confident repeat pilgrims who know both cities. For a first Umrah, or a trip with elderly parents, a full package with one responsible operator is usually worth the difference.
Don't buy a non-refundable ticket yourself before your operator confirms how the visa and flight will be timed. A delayed visa after a non-refundable ticket is one of the most avoidable losses in Umrah travel. When the operator books both, the timing is their responsibility, so get that in writing too.
Most visa delays are caused by small document problems found too late, not by rejections. Prepare these before you pay a deposit:
Fix these first. Each one can cost days, and in peak season days matter.
When we checked on 25 September 2026, non-stop Jeddah flights ran from eight Pakistani airports: Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Quetta. Non-stop Madinah flights ran from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Multan. Schedules change each season. See flights by airport, or the city guides for Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Multan.
In some brochures "direct" means non-stop. In others it means "one airline, one booking", with a stop in Dubai, Doha, Riyadh or Sharjah. A 90-minute connection is manageable. An 8-hour overnight layover with elderly parents is exhausting. Always ask for the flight numbers and times for your exact dates.
Most economy fares allow enough baggage going out. The problem is the return, when you're carrying Zamzam, dates, prayer mats and gifts. Each airline sets its own Zamzam rules. Some allow a sealed container at check-in, others handle it separately. Ask your operator for the return allowance and the Zamzam rule for your airline before you buy gifts. Weigh bags at the hotel the night before departure.
Pilgrims from towns without an international airport either drive to the nearest airport or take a domestic flight to connect. If one operator books both legs on one ticket, a delay on the first leg is theirs to solve. If you book separately to save money, a missed connection is yours to pay for. Leave plenty of margin, and for early-morning flights consider staying near the airport the night before.
No single month is best. It depends on whether you care most about spiritual reward, cost, crowds or weather.
| Season | Approximate timing | Crowds | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ramadan | Expected to begin in early February 2027, subject to moon sighting | Very high | Highest | Those seeking the reward of Umrah in Ramadan |
| Rajab and Sha'ban | The two months before Ramadan | Moderate to high | Higher | Spiritually motivated, budget-aware |
| Pakistani winter break | December–January | Moderate | Mid to high | Families with school-age children |
| Off-season | Muharram, Safar, hot summer weeks | Low | Best value | First-timers, budget-first, repeat pilgrims |
For a first Umrah on a budget, the months after Hajj offer the best value. Tawaf queues are shorter, closer hotels are available at every budget, and prices are clearly lower than in peak season. The rites and their reward are the same in any month. Only Ramadan carries the extra virtue described in the hadith.
A note on weather: Makkah is hot most of the year. Even in what feels like winter in Pakistan, afternoons in Makkah can be warm, while Madinah nights can turn cool. Pack light, breathable clothes and one warm layer.
A family Umrah isn't just "one package times five". A few things change the planning:
This is a planning overview, not a replacement for learning the fiqh from a trusted scholar. Knowing the order helps you understand why hotel distance and rest days matter so much.
Allow three to five hours for the whole sequence, or longer in crowds. Most pilgrims do it on arrival day. That is why a long flight, a late check-in and a hotel far from the Haram together make the first night so tiring.
These checks take about fifteen minutes and remove most of the risk:
Rooms close to the Haram are limited, and in peak season they sell out months ahead. Airfares have more options. Experienced pilgrims lock in the hotel first, then fit the flight around it.
Many flights from Pakistan land at night. Doing Umrah straight after a sleepless journey is common but hard on elderly travellers. It is perfectly acceptable to check in, sleep a few hours and then go for Umrah while still in Ihram, provided you avoid the Ihram restrictions until you finish.
Crowds usually peak just before and after the obligatory prayers. Mid-morning and late at night are often calmer, depending on the season. Upper floors of the mosque give longer but quieter circuits.
Some operators use leaders who speak mainly Arabic or English. For Ziyarat explanations and religious guidance, many Pakistani families want someone fluent in Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi or Pashto. Ask before you book.
Phones die and networks jam around the Haram. A card with the hotel name in Arabic and English, the nearest gate number and the group leader's number helps an elderly relative who gets separated find their way back.
Agree on a meeting spot for anyone who gets separated, such as a specific numbered gate or a clock tower entrance. Crowds in the Haram move fast, and families do get separated.
A 5-star rating doesn't help if the walk is 20 minutes. Always compare walking distances first.
The phrase means different things at different agencies. Ask for a list of every included item. If something isn't listed, assume it isn't included.
Pressure on WhatsApp to "pay today before the price goes up", into a personal account with no invoice, is a warning sign. Legitimate operators invoice you and accept payment to a business account.
The meningitis certificate must be issued at least 10 days before arrival. If you leave it late, you may have to change your dates.
Packing all the Ziyarat into one hot morning wears the group out. Spread it over two days and leave time just to sit in the mosque.
Illness, visa delays and family emergencies happen. Read the refund terms before paying, not after something goes wrong.
December in Lahore isn't December in Makkah. Pack for heat by day and some cool nights in Madinah, and bring comfortable, worn-in sandals.
The best Umrah package from Pakistan is rarely the cheapest line on a comparison sheet, and it isn't automatically the most expensive. It is the one where hotel distance, flights, visa timing, meals and refund terms are all confirmed in writing before you send a rupee.
A practical takeaway: before you call any agency, write down your dates, the names and ages of everyone travelling, and the one thing that matters most to your group, whether that is distance, budget or a non-stop flight. Ask every operator the same questions and compare written answers. If an operator can't answer clearly, look elsewhere.
