Rates move with seats and season. Why Umrah prices rise and fall
Price Two OptionsGujranwala has no Umrah flights of its own, so families drive to Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE) in Lahore. Direct services below follow our 25 September 2026 timetable check.
Transit routes, when to put on Ihram and luggage limits for Gujranwala travellers are in our airport and flight notes.
Hotel distance, add-ons, price drivers, paperwork and airport day each have a short explainer — open what your Gujranwala trip needs:
Gujranwala sits between two airports. Lahore had non-stop Jeddah flights on five airlines and non-stop Madinah flights on PIA and Airblue when we checked. Sialkot had non-stop Jeddah flights on PIA on limited days. Compare both for your dates, choose your package by the Makkah hotel's walking distance, and in December–January travel the day before to beat the fog.
Gujranwala has no airport of its own, but it has something almost as useful: two international airports within reach. Lahore lies to the south and Sialkot to the north-east, and both had non-stop flights to Jeddah when we checked. Lahore also had non-stop flights to Madinah. For Gujranwala families, the airport question comes first, and getting it right can make the whole trip smoother.
Gujranwala is one of Punjab's largest cities, with a strong business community and big extended families who often travel together. Umrah groups here frequently include relatives from Wazirabad, Kamoke, Hafizabad, Daska and nearby villages. That means planning the gathering, the drive and the documents for a whole group, not just one family.
This guide covers the airport choice, the drive (including the winter fog that affects this part of Punjab every year), packages and quotes, and planning for parents and groups. For the Umrah rites, visa rules and hotel categories, see our complete Umrah guide. Cantonment residents can also see Umrah from Gujranwala Cantonment.
When we checked airline schedules on 25 September 2026:
| Airport | Non-stop to Jeddah | Non-stop to Madinah | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lahore (LHE) | PIA, Airblue, Fly Jinnah, Saudia, SereneAir | PIA, Airblue | Fixed dates, airline choice, Madinah first |
| Sialkot (SKT) | PIA, on limited days | None found | The Sialkot flight matches your dates |
Our advice is to ask for both options for your dates and compare the door-to-door journey, not just the fare. Sialkot's smaller airport can be quicker and calmer when its flight fits. Lahore gives choice and a Madinah option, but you're heading into a big city with heavier traffic.
Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport is where most Gujranwala pilgrims fly from. Its advantages are clear:
The downside is the last part of the journey: entering Lahore and crossing to the airport, which is on the eastern side of the city, can take longer than the motorway itself at peak times. For night and early-morning flights, many Gujranwala families stay with relatives in Lahore or at a hotel near the airport. See Umrah from Lahore for airport details.
Sialkot International Airport is a smaller airport that is often calmer to use. When its limited-day Jeddah flight matches your dates, it can make the start of the trip noticeably easier, especially for families living on the northern or eastern side of Gujranwala.
Things to keep in mind:
See Umrah from Sialkot for more.
| Start in | Fly from | Advantages | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Makkah (via Jeddah) | Lahore or Sialkot | Umrah done early; more flight days | Most first-timers |
| Madinah | Lahore only | Calm start; no Ihram on the plane | Families with elders |
If you fly to Jeddah, men usually put on Ihram at home, at the overnight stop or at the airport, and make the intention before crossing the Miqat in the air. The crew normally announces it. If you start in Madinah, you put on Ihram at the Madinah Miqat (Dhul Hulayfah) when travelling to Makkah.
From Gujranwala, both airports are reachable by the GT Road or motorway links. The drive itself is usually manageable. The risks are traffic at either end and the weather.
Central Punjab's fog, usually worst in December and January, can close motorway sections, slow the GT Road to a crawl and delay early flights at both Lahore and Sialkot. Because the winter school holidays fall in exactly these weeks, many Gujranwala families travel in fog season. In those months:
| Category | Makkah hotel | Rooms | Usually suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | Further out; shuttle common | Quad or shared | Fit, budget-first, repeat pilgrims |
| 3 Star | Walkable, not the closest | Double to quad | First-timers, couples, small families |
| 4 Star | Closer, shorter walk | Double to quad | Families with elderly parents |
| 5 Star | Nearest band | Double to quad | Very elderly, Ramadan, special trips |
Large Gujranwala family groups often mix categories: elders in a closer Makkah hotel, younger members in 3 star or economy, all performing Umrah and Ziyarat together. In Madinah, a 3 star hotel close to Masjid an-Nabawi usually serves everyone well.
Gujranwala has many sellers, including local agents working for bigger operators. Make every quote answer the same questions, so you can compare fairly:
A Sialkot quote and a Lahore quote aren't directly comparable until you add road transport and any overnight stay. Put the total trip side by side.
In large Gujranwala family groups, the most common delays are elders' older documents with different spellings, married women with different surnames across documents, and children's passports that have expired. Collect and check everyone's documents early, because one problem can hold up the whole group.
| Travel period | Demand | Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Ramadan | Very high | Book as early as possible |
| Rajab and Sha'ban | High | Popular pre-Ramadan window |
| December–January | High | Family season; plan for fog |
| Summer | Moderate | Very hot in Makkah; choose a closer hotel |
| Muharram and Safar | Lower | Best value |
For elders, a Madinah-first flight from Lahore, a closer Makkah hotel and rest days between travel, Umrah and Ziyarat make the biggest difference. Request wheelchair assistance when the ticket is issued. Keep medicines in hand baggage with prescriptions.
Gujranwala groups can be big. Choose one coordinator for documents and payments, one airport and flight for everyone, and one gathering point the evening before. Keep individual receipts for each family even if one person makes the payment.
Saudi rules have relaxed for adult women in organised groups, but operator policies and document checks vary. Tell the operator about every woman travelling before booking, and ask for rooms with family members.
Every child needs a passport, plus a B-Form or FRC. A family quad room is usually best value. Keep children close in the Haram with your number in their pocket.
The package covers the trip itself. Daily life in Makkah and Madinah is extra, and Gujranwala families who plan for it in advance travel far more relaxed. Amounts depend on your habits and the exchange rate, so agree a daily figure per person before you leave.
| Extra cost | When it applies | How to keep it down |
|---|---|---|
| Lunch and dinner | Room-only or breakfast packages | Eat at the many Pakistani and Indian restaurants near pilgrim hotels; share large plates |
| Taxis | When the shuttle isn’t running, or elders are tired | Plan Haram visits around shuttle hours; share within the group |
| SIM or eSIM | Maps, WhatsApp and Nusuk | One data plan per family, shared by hotspot |
| Laundry | Stays longer than a week | Quick-dry clothes; wash small items in the room |
| Ziyarat | If not in the package | Join a group tour rather than hiring a private car |
| Wheelchair or pusher | For elderly or less mobile travellers | Bring a light folding chair, or arrange one early |
| Gifts and excess baggage | On the way home | Check the return allowance and Zamzam rules before shopping |
This example shows a comfortable pace for a first Umrah from Gujranwala. Your operator adapts it to your flights, hotels and whether you start in Makkah or Madinah.
| Days | Where | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Makkah | Arrive, check in, rest; perform Umrah when ready |
| 2 | Makkah | Recovery day — prayers in the Haram, no extra walking |
| 3–5 | Makkah | Prayers, Tawaf at quieter hours, one morning of Ziyarat |
| 6 | To Madinah | Road or Haramain train; check in and rest |
| 7–9 | Madinah | Prayers in Masjid an-Nabawi, Rawdah at your Nusuk slot, Ziyarat over two mornings |
| 10–11 | Departure | Pack, weigh bags, transfer to the airport and fly home |
The principle is simple: travel days, the Umrah itself and Ziyarat each get their own day, with rest in between. It keeps everyone well enough to worship on every day of the trip.
This is a planning overview for Gujranwala pilgrims, not a substitute for learning the fiqh from a scholar you trust. Knowing the order explains why hotel distance and rest days matter so much.
Allow three to five hours for the whole sequence, and longer in crowds. That is why a long journey, a late check-in and a distant hotel together make the first night so demanding — and why resting first is sometimes the wiser choice.
Most packages offer a short programme of visits to places connected with the life of the Prophet ﷺ and early Islamic history. Check whether Ziyarat is included in your quote and which sites are covered.
Spread Ziyarat over separate mornings rather than one long, hot day, especially with elders, and don’t schedule it on the same day as a long journey.
The best airport changes with your dates. Two options cost nothing to ask for.
For Lahore departures before midday, a night near the airport removes most of the risk.
Lahore's Madinah flights give elders a gentle start.
Put elders closest to the Haram. Everyone else can save.
In a big group, one late passport delays everyone.
A closed motorway can mean a missed flight. Travel the day before.
Check the flight days before fixing leave.
Include road transport and overnight stays.
Check each Makkah hotel's walking route.
Check the operator and pay only a business account.
Gujranwala families have two airports to choose from, and the right one depends on your dates and who is travelling.
A practical takeaway: ask for your quote in two versions, Lahore and Sialkot, with road transport included. Comparing them side by side usually makes the choice clear.
Travellers from these places share Gujranwala’s usual airport, Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE).
