Airlines change schedules every season and usually add flights around Ramadan. Ask for the airline, flight numbers, times, any stops and the baggage allowance for your exact dates. Some fares sold as “direct” stop in the Gulf on the way.

The Drive to Karachi Airport

From Kotri, the M-9 leads to Karachi, and the journey is usually a few hours depending on traffic entering the city. The motorway is rarely the problem; Karachi’s congestion near the end is.

Two quotes that look alike can describe very different trips. Ask every seller the same questions so you can compare fairly:

• Hotels: the exact names in Makkah and Madinah, so you can check the walking route on Google Maps yourself.
• Flights: departure airport, airline, flight numbers, any stops and the baggage allowance both ways.
• Room sharing: quad, triple or double — prices are often shown per person on quad.
• Meals: the plan in each city, which is often different.
• Transport: shared coach, private car or the Haramain train between the cities, and the road journey from Kotri to the airport.

Request wheelchair assistance when the ticket is issued — for both airports and both directions — and keep medicines in hand baggage with prescriptions and a few spare days’ supply.

Women

Saudi rules have relaxed for adult women travelling in organised groups, but operator policies and document checks still vary. Tell the operator about every woman travelling before booking, and ask for rooms with family members.

Children

Every child needs a passport, plus a B-Form or FRC to show the relationship. A family quad room is usually the best value. In the Haram, keep children close, put your phone number on a card in their pocket and agree a meeting point.

Large Groups

Choose one coordinator for documents and payments, book everyone on the same flight, and agree one gathering point — ideally near the airport the evening before. Relatives with different budgets can stay in different hotels and still perform Umrah and Ziyarat together.

What Arrival Day Looks Like

1. Ihram: if you fly to Jeddah, men usually put on Ihram at home or at the airport and make the intention before the aircraft crosses the Miqat — the crew normally announces it. If you fly to Madinah, no Ihram is needed on the plane.
2. Immigration and baggage can take a while in busy seasons. Keep passports, visa printouts and hotel vouchers together, and let elders sit while one person handles the luggage.
3. The operator’s transport meets the group. Save the driver’s or representative’s number before you fly.
4. Jeddah to Makkah is roughly one to two hours by road, depending on traffic.
5. Check-in and Umrah: many groups perform Umrah soon after arrival. Anyone exhausted can rest first — they stay in Ihram, observing its rules, until they finish.

The principle is simple: travel days, the Umrah itself and Ziyarat each get their own day, with rest in between. It keeps everyone well enough to worship on every day of the trip.

Performing Umrah: The Sequence in Brief

This is a planning overview for Kotri pilgrims, not a substitute for learning the fiqh from a scholar you trust. Knowing the order explains why hotel distance and rest days matter so much.

1. Ihram at or before the Miqat. Take a ghusl, men wear the two unstitched sheets, make the intention for Umrah and begin the Talbiyah. From then on, the Ihram restrictions apply.
2. Tawaf. Seven circuits of the Kaaba, starting from the corner of the Black Stone, followed by two rak’ahs — behind Maqam Ibrahim if there is space, otherwise anywhere in the mosque. Upper floors give longer but quieter circuits, and have wheelchair routes.
3. Sa’i. Seven lengths between Safa and Marwah, starting at Safa — about three kilometres in total, indoors and air-conditioned, with lanes for wheelchairs.
4. Halq or taqsir. Men shave their heads or shorten their hair; women trim a small length from the ends. The Ihram restrictions then end.

Allow three to five hours for the whole sequence, and longer in crowds. That is why a long journey, a late check-in and a distant hotel together make the first night so demanding — and why resting first is sometimes the wiser choice.

Ziyarat in Makkah and Madinah

Most packages offer a short programme of visits to places connected with the life of the Prophet ﷺ and early Islamic history. Check whether Ziyarat is included in your quote and which sites are covered.

• In Makkah: commonly Jabal al-Nour (the mountain of the Cave of Hira), Jabal Thawr, Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat, usually seen from a coach in a single morning.
• In Madinah: commonly Masjid Quba, Mount Uhud and the martyrs’ graveyard, Masjid al-Qiblatayn and the area of the Battle of the Trench.
• The Rawdah in Masjid an-Nabawi needs a time slot booked through the Nusuk app. Slots fill quickly in busy seasons, so book as soon as your Madinah dates are fixed.

Spread Ziyarat over separate mornings rather than one long, hot day, especially with elders, and don’t schedule it on the same day as a long journey.

Staying Well in the Haram

• Drink regularly. Zamzam is available throughout both mosques; elders often dehydrate without feeling thirsty.
• Avoid the midday sun. Walk early in the morning and at night; stay inside the mosque between Dhuhr and Asr if your hotel is far.
• Protect your feet. Broken-in sandals, plasters and anti-chafing cream prevent the small injuries that spoil a trip.
• Pace yourself. Missing a prayer in the Haram to rest is better than collapsing in the Mataf — prayer in the hotel still counts.
• Know where to get help. There are medical points in and around both Harams; ask the group leader on day one. Saudi Arabia’s emergency number is 911.
• Set a lost point. Agree a numbered gate as the family meeting place if anyone is separated in the crowd.
